This fence goes through a bog; all of the stays have 'feet' on them so the fence doesn't sink into the bog.
This fence crosses the North Platte River. It is designed to be drawn back like a curtain in the fall so that ice flows do not catch it and pull it down.
Buck and Rail
This buck and rail fence surrounds a mine shaft on BLM land near Encampment, Wyoming. It is in a roadless area and required skidding material a half mile uphill with draft horses.
We have built buck and rail fence from North Park lodgepole for many years. However, we no longer export bark-on lodgepole out of the county, as we do not want to send mountain pine beetles or ips beetles to other locations.
This buck and rail is built from peeled lodgepole. The buck ends on the ground have been treated with a non-toxic preservative. The owner requested the "wings" because she has trouble with wind rolling her fence down the hill; the wings serve as anchors.
We have hung numerous gates from specially designed bucks in our fences.
Sawn Buck and Rail
This buck and rail fence utilizes our abundant saw-timber sized beetle-kill for fencing. Conventional pole timber tends to be the trees that are surviving this beetle epidemic, and we feel they should be left in the woods.
